    • I am having problems with Inspiration. It is saying that a fatal exception error; or an illegal operation has been performed.
    • Your software may have become corrupted; or the installation didn't complete. Try updating your version of Inspiration to version 7.5; this is available on the web from the patch link shown. This error can also be caused by a Hewlett Packard printer driver. If you have a Hewlett Packard printer; try uninstalling the device temporarily and running Inspiration.

    • After I install Inspiration on my network server; why can't more than one person use the program at the same time?
    • This problem is almost always the result of a permissions conflict. In order for multiple users to access Inspiration at the same time; the permissions for your users on the Inspiration folder on the server must be set to Read-Execute or Read-Filescan ONLY. Any write access will cause any user after the first to be locked out of the program. Once you have set the permissions correctly; multiple users should be able to run Inspiration from the server at the same time.

    • When I launch Inspiration for the first time after installing it on my Windows PC; it stays on the splash screen for a minute or two before launching. Why?
    • The first time Inspiration launches on your computer; it must perform a few setup tasks. On some computers; most notably those with many fonts installed; these setup tasks can take a while. Inspiration will launch when it finishes these setup tasks.

    • What is the recommended UNC path convention for installing to a server and using UNC?

    • On my Windows PC; I have a special directory where I like to store all of my files. How do I get Inspiration to automatically save my documents in that directory?
    • As long as you are using Inspiration 7.0a or later; there are two ways to do this. The first method we describe assumes that you normally start Inspiration from the Start menu. The second method works for people who start Inspiration with a shortcut from their desktop. To customize your Start Menu: 1. Click on the Start button. 2. Locate your shortcut to Inspiration. 3. Right-click on the Inspiration shortcut. 4. From the menu that appears; select Properties. 5. A new window should appear. Click on the Shortcut file tab. 6. You should see a section called Start In. This is the directory that Inspiration will default to when opening and saving files. Just change this section so that it points to the directory where you store your Inspiration files. Once you're done with this; just OK or Close your way out of the windows that are open; and you should be done. To customize your shortcut: Select the Inspiration shortcut icon on the desktop. Right-click to open the menu and select Properties. Now follow steps 5 and 6 above.

    • Why does my diagram print so much smaller than it appears on screen?
    • Inspiration diagrams default to Fit to 1 page when printed. When your diagram is much larger than one page; the shrinking that occurs in order to fit it to one page can make your printed diagram look much smaller than it appears on screen. To make your diagram print out full size; simply choose Page Setup from the File menu and change the diagram options to Normal - Smart Page Breaks or Normal - Full Size. Either of these options will cause your diagram to print without a reduction in size. Please see the Inspiration Help system; which is available under the Help menu; for more information about Printing a diagram at full size.

    • Why does the graphic in my visually integrated note print outside of the note's boundaries?
    • This can happen when the inserted or pasted graphic in a sticky note is larger than the sticky note window. The way to improve the appearance of your printout is to expand the sticky note window so that it fits the graphic.
