The Digital Blue Digital Movie Creator 3 Education Version (blue model only), the brand new version of the award winning video camera.
Review by Primary Choice Magazine (volume 1, issue 4, June 2007)
The Digital Movie Creator 3 is a very innovative product, easy to use and easy to hold. The design is very ergonomic and appeals to children. The controls and play back facility via the 'live preview' makes it straightforward for children to use. The customised features appealed to the pupils (Year 5 aged 9-10). It does do what it says on the box 'shoot to share'. The Digital Movie Creator 3 can have an impact in the classroom, in that it was used to record a science experiment by a group of children, which was then shown to the class. Teachers are encouraged to use different learning styles and the camera offers a different way for pupils to record their work and share it with others in the class. The camera could be used in all curriculum areas, examples are: recording science experiments, making films (British Academy Film Awards - 60 seconds of fame), recording the making of soup as part of a Design Technology project, recording of a group presentation often groups present what they have 'found out' to a class, school trips, recording of school tournaments to be put onto the school blog and use by the school road safety officers to highlight road safety dangers. There are probably no areas of the curriculum that it couldn't be used in. The resource supports what goes on in school as it can record, and recording what pupils do is a key feature of much of pupils work. As part of teacher's assessment it could be used for a range of tasks from recoding speaking and listening to examples of artwork. The resource has many improvements on Digital Movie Creator 2.0, the longer USB lead and increased memory is a great improvement. In terms of educational aims schools are encouraged to embed ICT in all subjects of the curriculum and this camera would allow this as it is a pupil friendly tool.
