At BETT 2008, TAG Learning Ltd. ("TAG") is pleased to announce the launch of a new National Film & Animation Award. This follows the success of several regional competitions supported by TAG and organised by Local Authorities using the award winning Digital Movie Creator Camera. TAG is delighted that Floella Benjamin OBE, the respected actress, broadcaster and independent producer has agreed to chair the judging panel.

Building on the success of several regional Digital Movie Creator film awards organised by a number of Local Authorities, TAG Learning will be hosting a national awards ceremony to celebrate the work of advisors and the achievement of pupils involved. Pilar Cloud, Managing Director of TAG Learning had to say;

"With Floella Benjamin's background and passion for children and education and her previous experience launching the BAFTA Children's Film & Television Awards, we are delighted that Floella has accepted our invitation to Chair the Judging Panel."

John Jefferies, ICT Curriculum Support e-Learning Consultant for Lincolnshire County Council commented;

"The LAFTAS awards was a great opportunity for us to showcase the excellent work done by pupils across the authority, as well as introducing visual literacy into the classroom. The low cost but robust nature of TAG's Digital Movie Creator made this the ideal product to underpin the awards."

Here is a selection of the current regional Film & Animation Competitions for 2008:

  • ROSCARS - Rotheraham (founding regional award)
  • LAFTAS - Lincolnshire (Jim Broadbent - patron for LAFTAS awards)
  • SAFTAS - Staffordshire
  • NOSCARS - North Somerset
  • POscars - Peterborough
  • WOscars - Wolverhampton
  • DOscars - Derbyshire
  • Star Awards - Kirklees (Patrick Stewart - supporting the award ceremony)

TAG's team of regional representatives will be available to support any new authorities that would like to host regional awards in 2008.

Winners and runners up from the regional award will be invited to a National Award Ceremony to be hosted at BETT 2009, where the judging panel will select one winner and one runner up from the regional winners.

Floella Benjamin will be on the TAG Learning stand on Thursday afternoon at 4.20 to announce the launch of the award (Stand B56).
