Forget the Oscars. Move over BAFTAS. Following the success of 2008 competition TAG Learning is delighted to be hosting the award again for the winners of UK regional competitions. Previewed at BETT this year, it’s the perfect way to encourage and celebrate the creative film and animation work of your pupils.

Shortlists for the 2008 national awards were selected from regional awards run by the following local authorities/ organisations across the UK, involving hundreds of pupils:

·        Rotherham Local Authority

·        Kirklees Local Authority

·        North Somerset Local Authority

·        Pembrokeshire Local Authority

·        Lancashire Local Authority

·        Ceredigion Local Authority

·        Peterborough Local Authority

·        e-Learning at Luton City Learning Centre

·        East London Playing for Success Centre

This year’s event, bigger than ever,  will bring together the cream of the UK’s schools’ film and animation talent and builds upon many successful competitions held across the country.

Why not organize a competition like this yourself and earn your authority a place at the top table of schools’ movie making? Representative pupils and teachers from the winning regional schools will be invited to the National Awards Ceremony where talent will be showcased and could be in the running for one of the celebrated awards. Expect plenty of tantrums and tears!

Let’s leave the last words to the participants in the 2008 awards:

“The National Schools Film and Animation Awards gives students the opportunity to showcase their work outside of their home region. It allows schools to 'pitch themselves' against the best in the country. The excitement that the ceremony in London generated can't be measured - it's off the scale! The Awards enable schools to aspire to higher levels of attainment, skills and creativity. Students and teachers were so motivated that they can't wait for next year! Everyone is a winner! The process of producing a film or animation is probably more important than the winning and the award ceremony certainly brought this home! On a local scale, the National awards provides the motivation for schools who didn't take part this year, to take part next year. Plus it raises the profile of the Local Authority nationally.” Barrie Morgan, Advisor at Rotherham Local Authority

“Our school picked up the Best Film in the KS3 category. Our girls really enjoyed the ceremony and had a day they will remember for the rest of their lives. They hope to be able to submit their next film to the awards next year.” Liam Sanderson, Teacher, Dinnington Comprehensive, Rotherham
