Curriculum Online
Goodbye eLearning credits, hello Harnessing Technology Grant!
Don't despair! eLCs may be gone, but there are new sources of funding available.
The Harnessing Technology Grant enables you to purchase ICT resources both in CD-ROM and online form.
How is the Harnessing Technology Grant paid?
The funding will be distributed to schools via local authorities, through the Standards Fund.
How much money is available?
For the current year £603 million. That's somewhat more than eLearning Credits!
The Harnessing Technology Grant is allocated on the basis of three key indicators: pupil/student numbers, level of deprivation and sparsity.
Local Authorities are expected to retain 25 per cent of their allocation centrally in order to purchase resources on behalf of all the schools in the Authority. They will generally be able to negotiate better pricing based on the economies of scale. The remainder, however, is expected to be allocated to individual schools. We recommend you check with your Local Authority.
What can it be spent on?
It can be used to purchase any of our CD-ROM products, and any of our online subscription services (Magic Studio Pro, Visual Thesaurus). The only condition on subscriptions is that you must subscribe for two or more years.
Where can I find out more about the Harnessing Technology Grant?
You may already have received information about the Grant from your Local Authority. If not, you can ask them for details of the allocation for your school.

Are there any other monies available for digital content purchase?
Yes. It's called the Devolved Formula Capital. Schools (and Local Authorities) may access this grant to fund subscription based services such as Magic Studio Pro and Visual Thesaurus. For more information please go to www.teachernet.gov.uk/management/resourcesfinanceandbuilding/FSP/nds/.
